G Mills

Geoff Mills was brought up on the tough middle class streets of Malvern, where he learned to fend off local hoodlums with an immaculately dispatched Shakespearean put down. A graduate of the National Academy of Writing, he enrolled on a PhD programme in Creative Writing to avoid paying council tax, but found there is the little matter of 100,000 words to hand in. This is not something, he now realizes, you can knock up the week before. A gourmand by nature (elegant French for ‘greedy fucker’), he sticks his whorish fingers into as many generic pies as he can get his hands on. A beefy gentleman in his mid thirties, Mills confesses to a fetish for fast food, lager and high calorie prose. Previous work has been published in the Guardian, the Literary Review, Aesthetica as well as in a number of anthologies. He is currently working on a campus novel.

I don’t know why I’m talking in the third person – convention I suppose. Convention.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Doctor Dominic du Mortier and I am a hundred and sixty one years old. No no, stay where you are please. It’s not that I’m unwilling to shake your hand, please don’t think that. It’s really more a case of my being unable. Permit me to explain. I am beyond reach. And behind glass. And a rodent. Nothing special you understand – just a Rattus norvegicus, or a common brown rat to you. Oh yes, and dead. Did I mention that?
